The Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for Clydebank and Milngavie, Pam Gosal, has written to the Scotland’s Education Secretary to raise her concerns over the impact of home learning on children’s education and mental health.
Highlighting the fact that almost half of young people have felt lockdowns have negatively impacted their mental health, Mrs. Gosal stressed the importance of providing support for children in the communities.
In particular, the candidate for Clydebank and Milngavie stressed that the SNP Government have created a “postcode lottery” amongst Scottish young people. Last week, the EIS said it believes young people at school from more disadvantaged backgrounds are struggling more during the pandemic.
Pam Gosal, Scottish Conservative candidate for Clydebank and Milngavie, commented:
“Lockdown has taken a tremendous toll on so many young people and it’s vital that we get them back to school as soon as is safely possible. Schools and teachers need clear guidance on the routemap back to school to give them time to prepare and adapt. What they’ve been given is a holding document.
“Mr. Swinney must provide answers for how to safely bring our schools back. Home learning has already widened an already existing attainment gap between pupils in our area. We cannot afford to let down a generation of young people.”
